Tailored Craftsman Bungalow

This layered bungalow was designed for a couple returning to the Bay Area after several years abroad. When a recently renovated family home became available, it offered a meaningful starting point and a chance to make the space their own. Drawing on their love of art, travel, and time spent at home, we focused on creating something that felt both refined and easy. Rich color, warm wood, and collected pieces give the home its depth. From the chalky blue of Benjamin Moore’s Van Deusen Blue to the misty neutrals of White Dove in the kitchen, the palette moves between moody and soft. Personal objects are woven in throughout, alongside artwork sourced from Lost Art Salon and pieces by Rob Delameter, so the home feels lived in rather than styled.

Each room holds its own mood but still feels connected. The living spaces invite quiet gathering, with layered textiles and a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings. In the dining room, a custom table by local artisan Jacob May anchors the space, paired with cane dining chairs and a sculptural Arteriors chandelier above.

The two work-from-home offices reflect the couple’s individual rhythms. One leans darker and more enveloping, wrapped in Benjamin Moore Townsend Harbor Brown and shaped by a love of reading and introspection. The other feels lighter and more open, with a powder blue plaid wallcovering, Opuzen linen window treatments, and a mix of vintage and contemporary pieces that support focus with a sense of ease. Artwork throughout, including pieces from Dolby Chadwick Gallery and Antique & Art Exchange, brings in moments of contrast and personality.

The result is a space that feels grounded, personal, and comfortable in its own rhythm.
